Sobia Ali

Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Sobia Ali is currently pursuing her PhD in Applied Social Psychology at the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from the University of Prince Edward Island, and a Master of Arts in Applied Social Psychology from the University of Windsor. Trying her best to follow the feminist ethic, her research looks at issues of acculturation of South Asian Canadians, specifically of Muslim women. She is also currently working on a research project aimed at teaching young women how to resist sexual assault. When not busy with her graduate work Sobia enjoys reading (especially non-fiction), sketching, and experimenting with cooking. She also makes sure to take time to just relax and not think while watching television. She thinks it is necessary for her sanity.

Valerie Barter

Valerie Barter grew up in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2002, she graduated from Memorial University with a Major in Psychology and a Minor in Russian Language and Literature. Since graduation, Valerie has worked as a Youth Pastor with the Salvation Army St. John’s Temple Corp. It is a role that requires her to be a coordinator, friend, and spiritual leader to young people. While this can be a very challenging position, it is Valerie’s passion, and she finds it very rewarding. Recently, Valerie travelled to Africa with members of her church. It was a life-altering experience and she is eager to return.

Bev Gerg

After being a passionate researcher at the University of Prince Edward Island for five years, working with families in Atlantic Canada researching literacy and inclusion, Bev Gerg now works as the University's International Education Project Coordinator. She completed her Master's degree in Applied Health Services Research in 2006. Bev lives in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, with her husband Graeme, and two wonderfully spoiled cats. Her interests include hiking, camping, reading, travelling, and volunteerism.

Kelli Hanrahan

Kelli Hanrahan currently resides in Montreal, where she dreams, writes, sings, dances, and hula-hoops and practices yoga.  She is currently forming a women’s multi-disciplinary arts production company and writing a children’s story that she hopes will develop into a puppet show.   An East Coast gal at heart, she misses the ocean in her body and being, and so she dedicates her art to the creative and transformative power of Water.

Emily MacDonald

Emily MacDonald grew up in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In 2004, she graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a BA in Political Studies and a Certificate in Public Administration. In 2006, she graduated from Carleton University with a MA in Political Science with a concentration in Canadian Politics. Emily is now living in Newfoundland and Labrador working in the Department of Education. Emily is excited to be involved in Edwards Magazine and plans on sharing her perspective on women and politics with readers.

Colleen McKie

Colleen McKie is from Stratford, PEI, where she lives with her new husband and their house full of animals. She hold a BA in sociology from St. Francis Xavier (that she swears she will one day use). A book addict, Colleen can usually be found with her nose in a novel when she isn't working or spending time with her hubby.

 

Kylie Nelson-Louttit

Kylie was raised in Lethbridge, Alberta and attended the Law Clerk program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario. After completing college she relocated to Vancouver, British Columba where she worked as a Legal Secretary in the area of Personal Injury Law. She looks forward to returning to school with the ultimate goal of obtaining her law degree. She now lives in Kitimat, British Columbia with her husband, son and four pets. Her hobbies include reading, yoga, swimming and various paper crafts.

Emma Robinson

Emma Robinson is a third-year PhD student at Royal Holloway Collage, University of London, living in Staines, England. She loves reading, going to the cinema, seeing friends, travelling (when she can afford it), playing the piano, and shopping.

Krista Wakelin

Originally from Prince Edward Island, Krista Rae Wakelin is currently living in Oita Prefecture, Japan. She graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2002 with a major in English Literature and a double minor in History and Religious Studies. She moved to Japan shortly after graduation and is now working as an English teacher at a conversation school.
