Susan

Susan grew up in America's Deep South, earned her Physics Ph.D. at a midwestern university, and went to work for NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. at the age of 28. At 33, she "retired" to raise her children as a stay-at-home-mom and start her own consulting practice. A year later, new clients and a new baby sometimes have to take a back seat to her newest challenge -- fighting and overcoming breast cancer. Her newest mission is spreading the word about inflammatory breast cancer, a silent killer, and telling women and men everywhere that you don't have to have a lump to have breast cancer.

Erin Fredericks

Erin Fredericks grew up in Kentville, Nova Scotia. In 2006, she graduated from St. Thomas University in Fredericton with a BA with Honours in Sociology. Erin is currently a student in the Masters of Applied Health Services Research Degree at Dalhousie University. She is working as a research assistant for the Atlantic Seniors Housing Research Alliance at Mount Saint Vincent University. She is a volunteer board member for the Dalhousie Women’s Centre where she coordinates the health promotion portfolio. Her current research interests include women’s health and gender inequalities. Erin is happy to be part of any project that works to educate and empower women.

Stacey Gonzalez

Stacey Gonzalez has coordinated the Child Proofing at the Center for Health,
Environment and Justice since 2004. Prior to working at CHEJ, Stacey spent
three years in Guatemala with the Peace Corps. There she taught
environmental education to young people and worked with 24 Mayan women,
building family greenhouses, cooking, creating medicines and soaps. She
graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and worked at
the university after graduation, where she developed campus programs on IPM, recycling and energy conservation. She has also conducted energy audits of the University, local companies, and for Yosemite National Park. Stacey currently lives with her husband in Washington, DC.

Emily MacDonald

Emily MacDonald grew up in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In 2004 she graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a BA in Political Studies and a Certificate in Public Administration. Emily is a new graduate of Carleton University where she is received a MA with a concentration in Canadian Politics. She is very happy to be completed of her studies and looking for work in the real world. Emily is excited to be involved in Edwards Magazine and plans on sharing her perspective on women and politics with readers.

Kylie Nelson-Louttit

Kylie was raised in Lethbridge, Alberta and attended the Law Clerk program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario. After completing college she relocated to Vancouver, British Columba where she worked as a Legal Secretary in the area of Personal Injury Law. She looks forward to returning to school with the ultimate goal of obtaining her law degree.

She now lives in Kitimat, British Columbia with her husband, son and four pets. Her hobbies include reading, yoga, swimming and various paper crafts.

Elizabeth Roach

Elizabeth Roach was born in PEI, grew up in Souris, PEI, moved to Toronto at age 18, and lived in various cities throughout Ontario. Elizabeth returned to live in PEI at age 35 with the loves of her life: her husband, daughter and son. Elizabeth accepted employment as Account Consultant at Aliant, the third largest Telco in Canada. During this time she completed a “Management Development for Women” course of studies at UPEI, focusing on “the professional development of women in business and challenges surrounding “breaking through the glass ceiling.” She has also completed an Information Technology certification through St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Her favorite pastimes are boating on "their river" with her husband Allen; sunbathing on their dock; reading (sometimes 2 books at a time); writing about real people and real life situations; and beachcombing and collecting the sea-glass, driftwood, and rocks that float in to shore.
She also nurtures a passion for interior decorating and home design. She shares “women talk” and party planning during countless lunches with her daughter, Alaina.

At 52 years of age, in 2006, one of Elizabeth’s lifetime goals was achieved: In Montreal she attended her first live Elton John concert with her husband of 32 years. Next on her agenda is a trip to Australia. Elizabeth’s plans are to write full time in retirement and in preparation
has currently started two books, one of which she is co-authoring with a friend. She resides in her dream home on the water in rural Prince Edward Island.

Alaina Roach O'Keefe

Alaina Roach O’Keefe was born in Owen Sound, Ontario. Her family moved to Prince Edward Island when she was 10 years old, and since then, she has loved living on the Island.  Alaina has her Bachelor of Education (2005) and her Bachelor of Science with Honours in Psychology (2003) from the University of Prince Edward Island, and is currently completing her residency for the Masters in Applied Health Services Research (ARTC-UPEI). She plans to graduate in 2008.
Alaina Roach O'Keefe is both an educator and a junior researcher. She works at UPEI as a Research Coordinator for Family Literacy projects in Rural and Aboriginal Communities in Atlantic Canada. Her research interests lie in the areas of intergenerational literacy, child and adolescent health, and inclusion. Alaina also enjoys volunteering with the Learning Disabilities Association, traveling, running, UFIT, spending time with her family, and boating with her husband, Sean. She loves red wine and planning parties (weddings, birthdays, surprises, themes, etc).
