First and foremost this is a book about love: family love, parental love, romantic love, friendly love, unrequited love, new love, and old love. Cornelia and her husband Teo move from the city to the suburbs where Cornelia is instantly snubbed by Piper, the Queen Bee.  Also new to the area are Lake and her teen age son Dev.  When Lake and Cornelia meet, they instantly strike up a friendship. But, as tends to happen, both are hiding secrets.

Meanwhile Queen Piper finds her world falling apart when her best friend Elizabeth is diagnosed with cancer.

I truly loved this book from beginning to end.  In fact it was one of those rare times when I put the book down after reading the last page and was saddened that it was over.  De los Santos does a wonderful job of bringing these characters alive and making them my favorite kind: ones that are neither good nor bad, but rather human.

While a character-driven book, there is also a bit of well placed mystery.  But the characters and their intertwining lives are at the heart of this story. Funny at times and heart wrenchingly sad at others, Belong to Me is a truly wonderful book and I look forward to reading more from this author.
